English Language Institute

The English Language Institute provides students the opportunity for English language training through an intensive 20 hours per week program focusing on speaking, listening, writing, and reading.

Non-native English speakers may choose to attend the ELI in order to:

• Prepare for admission into a graduate/undergraduate program at the College of Charleston or other university.
• Prepare to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
• Improve English skills for advancement in the workplace.
• Acquire cultural knowledge of the area and the United States.
